Setting up an App password for your phone
An App password is a randomly generated one time use password specifically for an App. It is the preferred authentication for your email account on your phone and once set up correctly you will never have to change the password on your phone again.
Step 1.
Follow this link within VDI https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/AppPasswords.aspx
Step 2.
Log in to your account using your email work email address. It should automatically complete your password and move you to the authentication phase. If you have are asked to authenticate refer to 2 A. if you are asked to set up authentication refer to 2 B.
2 A. You may be challenged to authenticate your log in through ether an already set up method of authentication e.g. a text sent to your phone or a notification on the authentication app (refer to authentication app set up guide if you wish to set up a more user friendly method of authenticating log-ins exclusive to using an app password)
2 B. If you haven’t set up authentication you will be asked to set up an authentication method. For now you will enter a mobile phone number (preferable your work mobile) select the region (UK) and select to receive a text message. The text message you receive will contain a 6 digit number which you will need to enter into the browser.
Step 3.
Once logged in you will see the option to create a new app password. Select this and you will be prompted to give the app password a name (purely for your own reference) Once completed it will display a string of letters 16 characters long. This is your app password specifically for your phones mail app.
Step 4.
The App password you’ve created will then need to be entered into your phone in place of your usual network/VDI/exchange password. You may have a notification asking you to update your mail settings, if not you can access the account you’d need to enter the password into by going to [settings>email+accounts>cbhomes/exchange]
Step 5 (optional).
Once your phone is set up and you find that you are a mobile member of staff, have a look at the guidance for setting up the Authentication app on your phone for an easier way of authenticating when logging into your email at different sights.
